As we transition into pre-fall, the new shoe mantra is: go big or go home! Embellished, embroidered, bejeweled, fur, studs, lace-up, the list goes on... We already know a good shoe can make or break an outfit. With all the focus on your feet, you can pair a really simple outfit with an incredible shoe and call it a day. Think classic white button up with jeans and a tasseled lace-up sandal or the cult Gucci Princetown slipper and ta-da!
We hope everyone had a fabulous Fourth of July weekend! We spent the long weekend in Vail, Colorado. It's one of my favorite places to spend the holiday because my family celebrated there when we were growing up. Now that I have a family of my own, it is so much fun sharing the same experiences with my husband and son (parade, fireworks, gondola rides, bike rides, favorite restaurants...)
For the evening of the Fourth, I went full-on red, white and blue with a navy and white tassel dress by Reformation and accessorized with my beloved Belgian Bag in bright red and a pair of gold and navy-flecked cork wedges. In case I haven't mentioned, I am currently six months pregnant. To be honest, I am not a fan of maternity clothes - I did not wear them during my last pregnancy and I do not plan on wearing them this time around - with the exception of maternity jeans (there really is no substitute for those!) I recently discovered Reformation, a sustainable clothing company based out of LA, and bought a couple of dresses in looser silhouettes, that worked perfectly. It can certainly be difficult navigating through this season's crop tops, cut outs and fitted styles. For any expectant mothers needing help dressing their bump, feel free to email me for advice! xo, Courtney
Now that so many of our favorite designers have added childrenswear to their roster (Milly, Lilly Pulitzer, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana, Chloe- to name a few), we simply cannot resist the selection of adorable mother and daughter outfits! We cannot think of a better time to dress like your little fashionista than on Mother's Day. Unfortunately, neither of us have a little girl to dress up as our minis - we can't help but dream!
This spring gingham is back. Designers like Michael Kors, Altuzarra and Oscar de la Renta have put a modern twist on this preppy print. It's a great addition to an outfit. Like any print, less is more. A head to toe gingham look is best left on the runway. Take one piece and pair it with a solid. We've put together a selection of a few favorites!
Considering yesterday's snowstorm in the northeast, it is still a bit early to be dressing for spring! Nonetheless, I thought I'd provide a little spring inspiration from our recent trip to Palm Beach. This was a great day-to-evening look that I wore for afternoon shopping along Worth Avenue (more to come on that later) and then dinner at Bice. One of my favorite, and most versatile, wardrobe essentials is a little tailored jacket that can be worn over the most basic pieces to add a bit of polish and pull the look together. Here, I paired a classic ivory tweed jacket from my days at Oscar with white jeans and a white tank top. To complement the white and ivory, I kept my accessories neutral - nude platform sandals and a ladylike top-handle bag in blush. As winter is (hopefully) about to start winding down, this is the perfect time to start working these light neutrals into your wardrobe!
Today, we are thrilled to feature our friend, Hayden Lasher, an up-and-coming designer who I was privileged to work with at Oscar de la Renta. In 2014, Hayden launched her namesake handbag collection which is sold exclusively at the iconic New York retailer, Belgian Shoes and haydenlasher.com. Her sophisticated handbags are instant classics; hand-crafted of fine Italian leathers, their design and quality will stand the test of time. As great-grand niece to Henri Bendel, fashion is in her genes. In addition to her incredible talent and eye for design, she also has an impeccable sense of style. Here, Hayden shares some of her style essentials!
style icons: My mother, Lynn Lasher…she has real style and something even more important: taste. Others include: Queen Letizia of Spain, Katharine Hepburn and Coco Chanel.
favorite designers: Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Roland Mouret, Alexander McQueen- I think they really know how to make women feel beautiful!
favorite stores: Five Story and Beretta.
handbag: A Hayden Lasher Belgian Bag…of course! If you carry a great handbag, you can wear anything and go anywhere.
shoes: Pumps: Oscar de la Renta: I designed a pair of pumps for my wedding and I dyed them black so I can wear them all the time- they are always my go to for a night out on the town. Flats: Belgian Shoes - any color!
denim: Mother jeans...don't be fooled by the name...they are not your mother's jeans. They have the perfect skinny jean and the most comfortable lazy day jeans...what more do you need?
city day look: For tearing around town...I am usually in a black cigarette pant, with a silk blouse, my leopard belgian shoes and a black belgian bag
country day look: Jeans, monogramed Lucchese boots, a Beretta blazer and a brown pebbled belgian bag.
currently eyeing for your closet: A Rendor and Steel white gold Electron Ring- its the perfect everyday piece and a Chelsea Scarf from the Katie Fong Collection...its the easiest thing to throw on to go from a day to night look.
lusting over: This embroidered Oscar de la Renta dress
items you splurge on: I am a sucker for a great coat...you can always wear something conservative and wow with a statement coat and bag. Hermes scarves are another weakness of mine- nothing is chicer than jeans, a white shirt and an hermes scarf. For my home, I cant resist splurging on the White Flower candle from the Ritz in Paris.
items you save on: Anything trendy...I buy most of my trendy items from Zara. Its an easy way to get the play around with new styles without investing too much. Even if the trend comes back in style again one day...you will want something new.
beauty essentials: Laura Mercier “Oleander” cream blush – great for a matte lip too! Also, Laura Mercier Infusion de Rose Nourishing oil - smells amazing and gives you a really great glow. Lastly, Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner is a must for harsh New York Winters...
signature scent: Miss Dior Cherie - I have worn it for years and I love that my friends can pass other people wearing it on the street and think of me.
salon: Frederik Fekkai
destination: Positano, Italy.
hotel: Le Sireneuse Hotel in Positano, Italy
restaurant: Le Bilboquet or Ralph Lauren Polo Bar
3 essentials you can't live without: A sketchpad/pencil (that counts as one right? I'm greedy), a great book - right now, I'm reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami and a Belgian Bag to tote the other two around. :)
Last weekend was Refined co-founder, Michelle's, birthday! For those who don't know Michelle, she is the quintessential uptown girl, so, naturally, her birthday celebrations took place at some of our favorite spots on the Upper East Side. The night started with dinner at le Bilboquet (their cajun chicken is to die for) and ended with drinks at Beautique. Michelle wore the most incredible Alberta Ferretti broadtail coat with grey fox and crystal embroidery and a stunning Moschino sequined dress. Happy birthday, M!! x
